GC2018 – World Cup: The IJBC and Global Conference will come to a thrilling climax, with arguably the most anticipated session! Once again Europe will take on the Rest Of The World in the true global language, football. The two teams will try to score as many goals as possible, using Oscar-worthy dives, questionable refereeing, and a seemingly non-existent offside system – all in the hope of being crowned champions of the CISV world and winning the elusive bragging rights. This session is open to all. You can play the full game or just run on for 5 minutes and score a 40 yard screamer into the top left-hand corner and walk off again like the legend you will become. There is no limit to the number of players per team. This is a friendly game for all participants to enjoy before we go our separate ways, and if you don’t feel like playing you can always come along to have a laugh and support your team!

When you arrive at the Conference, we will tell you which Reflection Group you will join. Your Reflection Group will be made up of 8-10 people and will be led by an experienced CISVer. The Reflection Groups will be friendly and informal. You will get to know other volunteers from around the world, discuss the sessions you attended, and talk about what you have learned over the past day. The Reflection Groups

A special screening of award-winning documentary ‘The Dialogue’
8.30 pm, Wednesday 15 August
With the support of the CISV International Peace Fund
followed by an audience with film-maker Arnd Wächter
Feature Film
The Dialogue, a 68 minute documentary created by Crossing Borders Films and co-produced by Michigan State University, follows four American and four Chinese university students as they travel together through Hong Kong and Southwest China. Together the students explore each others’ backgrounds and learn cross-cultural communication skills. Their shared travel adventures, the emotion of culture shock, honest confrontations and discoveries about each other become doorways to deepen their understanding of the world, of themselves and of styles of communication that are able to bridge cultural differences.
The Dialogue aims to grow social skills such as critical thinking and intercultural empathy, which enable individuals to communicate across cultural differences.
Read more about The Dialogue and see a short trailer.
Filmmaker
Arnd Wächter is an award winning filmmaker, intercultural educator and social entrepreneur. He founded the non-profit organizations Crossing Borders Education and Morocco Exchange as a creative and proactive response to 9/11. His passion for intentional, cross-cultural interactions drives him to produce professional, feature documentary films. He strongly believes that through well-crafted storytelling, films have the power to put a human face on abstract, complex social issues and make them accessible to large groups of people. This in turn builds empathy and inspires individuals to engage, dialogue and act.
Arnd founded Crossing Borders Films and produced the three feature documentaries Crossing Borders, The Dialogue and American Textures. His feature films were selected at over 20 intercultural conferences and 15 international film festivals, winning several awards. He co-produced the cross-cultural landing page for National Geographic Education around his intercultural film trilogy. Arnd and his work appeared in the New York Times, Euronews, the PIE Magazine and on National Public Radio (NPR), among others.
Arnd was born in East Germany and grew up next to the Berlin Wall. His awareness of national responsibilities to confront historic violence, racism and experiences of outer and inner walls between people and cultures lead him to travel to over 60 countries across the globe. He is constantly looking for ways to deepen his own understanding of the world, its diversity and the nature of separation and conflict facilitation.
Arnd will also deliver a session – Self-Empowerment for a New World through Dialogue: Strengthening Life Skills during Times of Division

Dinner and Farewell Party ft. Gaby Moreno
After four days of learning, it’s time to relax and celebrate with friends, new and old. The theme for this party is Vintage CISV, an opportunity for us to reflect where we have been, as well as where we are going! The evening will start with dinner, followed by a performance by our special guest, Latin Grammy Award winner and CISV Guatemala alum, Gaby Moreno. There will also be lots of fun activities lasting well into the night. Dress up, wear your national costume, or wear your favourite vintage CISV memorabilia (t-shirts, pins, buttons, bandanas, etc.), and take your picture in our photo booth. Bring a picture from your first CISV experience and help us build a collaborative mural project.
It will be a night to remember!
