Tips from the Locals
The Netherlands is a beautiful country, full of culture, stunning landscapes, and fun things to do. To help you enjoy your visit, we’ve enlisted the help of members of CISV Netherlands to give us tips from the locals. We will be adding to this list as we get closer to the Conference, so check back for updates!
- Visit the little town of Heusden. This is a typically Dutch town and is hardly visited by foreigners.
- Less than an hour from Schiphol Airport is Rotterdam. This city is very different from Amsterdam and the Hague and beautifully showcases modern Dutch architecture. Don’t forget to enter the cube-houses!
- Visit the “waddeneilanden” up north. Rent a bike, drink some hot chocolate, and eat some fresh fish. Many Dutch people love to go to our own islands, and once you’re there you will understand why.
- Go to the Veluwe, rent a bike, and visit the modern art museum, Kruller Muller.
- To feel the contrast with the protestant cities of the north, go to Maastricht – drink some beers, go shopping, have dinner, and experience the hills of the Netherlands.
- Utrecht is a smaller, more Dutch version of Amsterdam.
- A classic city to visit, of course, is Amsterdam. Stroll alongside the canals and visit it’s museums, such as the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum
- Another popular destination is the Hague, a quick train ride from Schiphol Airport, where you can also visit the beach.
